Luchadora Series

"Viva la Cerveza"
Beer can collage nailed to acrylic painting

Luchadoras are the female fighters of  Mexican wrestling/Lucha Libre

They are a symbol of Power, Strength and Bad-Assery

To me, they represent what a woman is capable of but not given credit for,
that if challenged, we will F*ck you up - and look good doing it.

These paintings along with other BoneWerx goodies are currently showing at:

2014 ReCap

2014 was a BUSY year full of lots of small works for Group Shows.
The above are some of my favorites.
2015 will be very different.
My goal is NOT to spread myself so thin
and instead, focus my energy on creating a body of work
for a solo show in late August at Nebraska Gallery.

My friend Teresa Bergen wrote a great piece on Art focused
Goal setting. Check it out here:

Tramp

"The Tramp"
Acrylic on denim covered board with bottle caps, leather, nails and
old metal car letters (I scavenged myself)

In December I participated in a Group Show of artworks inspired by the songs of
Bruce Springsteen

I chose to portray him as the scruffy young poet who wrote:

"In the day we sweat it out on the streets of a runaway American dream
At night we ride through the mansions of glory in suicide machines
Sprung from cages out on highway nine,
Chrome wheeled, fuel injected, and steppin' out over the line
H-Oh, Baby this town rips the bones from your back
It's a death trap, it's a suicide rap
We gotta get out while we're young
`Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run"

I know they call him "The Boss" but
there's something about a Tramp that makes me swoon!

"Wendy let me in I wanna be your friend
I want to guard your dreams and visions
Just wrap your legs 'round these velvet rims
And strap your hands 'cross my engines
Together we could break this trap
We'll run till we drop, baby we'll never go back
H-Oh, Will you walk with me out on the wire
`Cause baby I'm just a scared and lonely rider
But I gotta know how it feels
I want to know if love is wild
Babe I want to know if love is real "

Little birds

Inspired by antique daguerreotypes, I painted quirky bird portraits
on "upcycled" denim for a rustic Americana feel. The denim is mounted to
cedar fence board scraps that I 'reclaimed' from a neighbor.
The vintage beer cans came from an estate sale of an avid breweriana collector
(who I can only hope is not rolling in his grave!)
Each bottle cap has been pounded flat by hand, burned in the fire
and sanded for just the right patina.
5.5 x 6.5 each

Yeah . . . I put a bird on it!

Vibrate in Harmony

"Vibrate in Harmony"

1 Parrot brand harmonica + 1 Star brand harmonica
(deconstructed)
"GoodLife" beer can
burned bottle caps
upholstery remnant on wood

A commission for an old friend who asked me to
"just make him something"

"Use whatever excuse you can
to vibrate in harmony
with those things you've been saying you want.
And when you do, those things
that are a vibrational equivalent
flow into your experience in abundance.
Not because you deserve it,
not because you've earned it,
but because it's the natural consequence
of the Law of Attraction.
That which is like unto itself is drawn."

Entitled

26 Artists
picked titles at random from a hat
and created 52 visual art pieces
based on those titles.

I drew
"Consulting the moon"
and
"Holy Box"

"Artists often title their work once it's completed.
How does a title affect a piece of art if that title is the inspiration?
By giving artists titles not of their own creation, it offers an intriguing challenge
to create work that's both their own but also has a connection to the title."
-Roxanne Patruznick, Creator of Entitled: A Group Show

All original art is priced at $50 each. Arrive early, the art in this show is amazing.

Opening First Thursday, October 2nd 5 to 9pm.

Glyph Cafe 804 NW Couch

There will be a companion reading on October 9th.
7 writers wrote original work inspired by the images of the artists in this show.

Hammsa

Hammsa: Protector of sky blue waters

Apparently, few people realize that the iconic palm-shaped amulet,
popular throughout the Middle East and North Africa, depicting the right hand with 2 thumbs,
an image recognized and used as a sign of protection in many societies throughout history,
and believed to provide defense against the evil eye. . .
 is called a Hamsa.

But that's OK!
I guess it's my own inside joke,
and I'm still giggling!
